The ten basic calisthenics have been used to achieve the voice developments and transformations described in the introductory pages and should be studied extensively in as many ranges as are comfortable for your voice to firmly establish the idea of pathways for the voice to follow. These paths can then be used in the higher range categories to increase vocal range by safely moving the voice through register breaks or instabilities, which in this system are defined as the channels between the cranial sinuses, and the physical action for this is the arching tongue 'levering' against the lower front teeth, as will be described and emphasised throughout the manual. I have found that the calisthenic ideas and techniques can be readily taken across into the singing of songs by: Notes to the backing-tracks Asc - implies modulation to a higher key with each cycle within the defined pitch-range. Desc - implies modulation to a lower key with each cycle across the defined pitch-range (note that the starting note in this category will be towards the upper limit of that particular range) Flexi - implies that the tempo increases with each modulation (or in one case increases continuously ie an extended stringendo) These are all variations on the Asc versions. The modulations are scored for the Asc versions and obviously are altered for the Desc versions but the score still indicates the correct modulation rhythm pattern-let your ear locate the new starting note. Once you have worked through the ten exercises you may wish to move randomly about the collection so there is a menu bar provided for rapid selection. |
